การเขียนจดหมายแนะนำตัว Letter of Recommendation นั้นความจริงแล้วไม่มีกฏเกฑฑ์ตายตัว สิ่งที่ LOR ควรจะแสดงให้เห็น การจัดหน้าสามารถทำได้ตามที่ผู้เขียนเห็นควร องค์ประกอบหลักๆ มี ดังนี:
1. ควรเริ่มต้นด้วยการอธิบายว่าตัวผู้เขียน (อาจารย์) เป็นใคร ชื่อ นามสกุล ตำแหน่ง วุฒิการศึกษา และเหตุผลว่าทำไมคำแนะนำของอาจารย์คนนี้ถึงสำคัญเพียงพอที่ทางสถาบันจะต้องรับฟัง เช่น นักศึกษาต้องการจะสมัครเข้าศึกษาต่อในด้านจิตวิทยา และอาจารย์คนนี้เป็นผู้เชี่ยวชาญคว่ำหวอดในวงการจิตวิทยาที่อเมริกามาหลายปี เป็นต้น

2. ควรอธิบายถึงความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างอาจารย์กับลูกศิษย์ จะดีที่สุดถ้ารู้จักกันมาหลายปี ควรระบุให้ชัดเจนว่าเจอกันตอนคลาสไหน และเคยเรียนอะไรด้วยกันบ้าง พอพูดถึงจุดนี้แล้ว ค่อยเกริ่นว่านักศึกษาคนนี้โดดเด่น และสมควรได้รับเลือกให้เข้าเลือกที่มหาวิทยาลัยนี้อย่างไร เพราะความกระตือรือร้นในการมีส่วนร่วมในคลาส เพราะความรู้ที่กว้างขวาง เพราะสามารถตอบคำถามได้อย่างมีเหตุมีผลที่สุด เป็นต้น ความเห็นนี้สามารถกล่าวถึงคะแนนของนักศึกษา แต่ปกติแล้วควรจะย้ำถึงลักษณะอันพึงประสงค์ของตัวนักศึกษาด้วย สามารถย้ำถึงแรงบันดาลใจ หรือพูดว่าทางผู้เขียนเห็นด้วยว่าการศึกษาต่อนี้จะส่งผลดีต่อการประกอบอาชีพในอนาคตของนักศึกษา

3 ย่อหน้าสุดท้ายเพียงแค่ต้องสรุปว่า นักศึกษาคนนี้เหมาะสมเป็นอย่างยิ่งสำหรับการศึกษาต่อที่มหาวิทยาลัยนี้ หากมีคำถามใดๆ โปรดติดต่อมาที่ ...... ณ จุดนี้ควรมีข้อมูลการติดต่อให้ละเอียด ทางเบอร์โทรศัพท์ และอีเมลล์

คำแนะนำ:  LOR ที่ดี คือ LOR ที่ดูจริงใจที่สุด อย่ากดให้อาจารย์เขียนอย่างที่เราต้องการ บางครั้งอาจารย์ก็มีมุมมองที่น่าสนใจเกี่ยวกับเรา ซึ่งทาง administration สนใจที่จะอ่านเช่นกัน

My name is Asst. Prof. Dr. Tisana Phunpikul, currently a dean of science division at xyz University, Nakhon Pathom, Thailand. In addition to holding the position of a dean, I also teach physical anthropology, social anthropology and primate studies, to name a few. I have been a lecturer for over 6 years in total. I believe I have been active in the field long enough to recognize the great potential Ms. Rojana Ekamaisuk can bring to the academic field, starting from her pursuance of abc major at xyz University for her postgraduate studies.

I first came across Ms. Rojana Ekamaisuk 4 years ago in Primate Studies, which she took as an elective. Since then, she has switched her major for opportunities to closely study Primates – and she became a regular student in all of my classes.
